Matthew's Birthday and Andersonville Trip ~ May 2010

Happy birthday, Matthew!

Later on in May, we took a trip to see the Andersonville site. This was a place where, during the Civil War, prisoners from the north were kept. It was very interesting and sad to see.

A spring that was found by one of the men imprisoned there. Thank goodness for that, because otherwise they would've depended upon a filthy little stream that ran through the middle of the compound!

Close up of spring and fountain.

Rachel looking at the water near the spring.

Interesting design to bring spring water to the fountain.

The North Gate~ compound where many prisoners were kept.

The doors were very big and heavy!

This is very cool. The great thing about your travels is that your children get to see pieces of the history from many parts of the country!

True! I am learning to look for the good bits in all of this. :)
